Beginning June 22, 2026, all ACH Originators must implement risk-based fraud-monitoring processes designed to identify entries that may be unauthorized or initiated under False Pretenses (i.e., payments authorized because the sender was deceived).
These changes are part of Nacha's broader effort to enhance fraud prevention and strengthen risk management across the ACH network.
What will the new monitoring processes look like?
The new monitoring processes must be:
- Documented
- Risk-based and tailored to your ACH activity
- Reviewed and updated annually to reflect evolving fraud threats
How can I prepare for these changes?
- Review and update internal ACH origination and authorization procedures
- Strengthen fraud-monitoring tools and implement dual-control process where appropriate
- Verify all changes to account and routing instructions using known, trusted contact information
- Train employees to identify common fraud scenarios such as email compromise or payment redirection attempts
