Debit & ATM Cards

VISA Debit Card

The UniBank VISA® Debit Card is not a credit card; it is a convenient way to access the money in your checking account with the flexibility of the VISA symbol. Point-of-sale purchases are deducted from your checking account and a detailed record of every transaction will appear on your monthly statement. Use it anytime, anywhere that accepts VISA, simply by signing your name or entering your Personal Identification Number (PIN).

Whether you are shopping locally or around the world, you can use your UniBank VISA Debit Card to pay for everyday purchases instead of carrying extra cash, writing checks, or using a credit card. Some restrictions may apply.  Please read our “Traveling with your Debit Card” information.

Cash Back at Local Merchants

Countless merchants nationwide allow debit card users to get "cash back" for no additional fee while you're conveniently shopping. UniBank customers appreciate the convenience of withdrawing cash from their account when they select the DEBIT option at checkout while making an in-store purchase. Receiving cash back is a common practice at grocery stores, gas stations, pharmacies, and many other retail stores. Please read more about getting cash back with your UniBank Debit Card below. Fees may be applicable at time of purchase based on retailer.

Digital Wallet

Add your UniBank VISA Debit Card to your mobile device’s digital wallet and experience a whole new level of convenience when shopping in-store, in-app, or online. Available for Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google PayTM.

VISA Click to Pay

Visa Click to Pay is a digital payment service designed to simplify your entire payment process when shopping online. Pay online without re-entering your card and shipping details where Visa Click to Pay is accepted.

ATM Card

Your UniBank ATM Card gives you the ability to make cash withdrawals, deposits, balance inquiries and transfers at any UniBank ATM, 24 hours every day. When you are on the road, you can get cash at any Allpoint, MoneyPass, CIRRUS®, or PLUS ATM location worldwide. And, since UniBank is a member of Allpoint and MoneyPass, you may avoid additional surcharges from other financial institutions.

Getting cash back from merchants while shopping with your UniBank debit card
To get cash back using your PIN to make a purchase, please use the below guidelines:

  • Don’t be shy! Ask the sales associate before they finish ringing you up if they offer “cash back”.
  • When it’s time to insert your card, be sure to say debit if asked “Debit or Credit.”
  • Because you selected Debit you will be asked to type in your PIN. Always take precautions and look around you whenever typing your PIN but rest assured if you are at a reputable business your information will be safe. Note - this PIN will be the same one you use at any ATM.
  • Your card will be charged for the full amount — the value of your goods/services plus your cash back amount. Most merchants have a cash back limit in place so be sure to ask ahead of time how much you can take.

Suspend Your Debit Card
Can't find your debit card or know you won't be using it for a while? You can suspend your card in UniBank's Mobile Banking app anytime. If you’re forgetful and misplace your card, but don’t want to completely disable it, this is a great feature that puts control of your cards in the palm of your hand!

Here's what to do:

  1. Sign into the UniBank Mobile Banking app
  2. Select "Manage My Cards" from the main menu
  3. Select the card from available options (The last four digits of your card(s) will be listed)
  4. Select "Block Card" toggle
  5. Re-activate your card when you need it within Mobile Banking

Here's what to expect:

  • The suspension will take effect immediately.
  • Your card won't work for purchases, ATM transactions, or scheduled recurring online payments. Be sure to make other payment arrangements directly with your payees.
  • You can re-activate your card within Mobile Banking when you need it.
  • If you share an account with a joint account holder, the suspension will only affect the card selected since cards are managed separately.

Enhanced Fraud Protection Service

In our efforts to keep your accounts secure, UniBank utilizes an alert system for potential debit card fraud. Enrollment in this service is NOT required - debit card customers are automatically enrolled in this service.

Here’s how our alert system works:

  1. When potential fraud is detected, a text message alert will be sent to the mobile number on file, to which you may respond “fraud” or “no fraud”.  Text messages will be sent any time of day, 7 days a week. If you prefer not to receive texts, you can opt out by following prompts within the text content if you receive a text message.
  2. If no response is received through text message alerts, automated phone calls will occur between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Eastern Time, 7 days a week, asking you to confirm or deny fraud. The call will also give the option of speaking to a fraud analyst.
  3. The first round of calls will be made to your home and mobile telephone numbers in that order, leaving voice messages if there is no answer.
  4. If contact is not able to be made during the first round of calls, a second round of calls will be made to your mobile and home in that order, leaving voice messages only if one couldn’t be left previously.
  5. You must reply directly to the Fraud Center text message or phone call indicating whether or not the alert is actually fraud. If you do not reply, your card will remain suspended until you reply directly to the Fraud Center.

Remember – our messages will never ask for your PIN or account number.

The phone number for the Fraud Center is 833.735.1894. The text alerts will come from 37268. Please add these numbers to your phone and label them “Fraud Center” so it will display on your phone if you are contacted. Please also take a moment to log into Online Banking to verify/update your telephone numbers on file with UniBank or call us at 800-578-4270. This service is provided at no charge to you.*

Traveling Abroad with your Debit Card

Before you depart on your next vacation or business trip outside the New England region or outside the United States, we would like to share some important information about your UniBank ATM card and VISA debit card.

When using your UniBank card outside the region or outside the U.S., the fraud monitoring system in place for your protection may be activated. This means that your cards could be declined while trying to make purchases.

To avoid this situation:

We recommend that you call our Customer Contact Center at 800.578.4270 at least one week before departure and provide us with the dates and destinations. By notifying UniBank in advance, we can take steps to avoid your debit card from being blocked against authorized purchase transactions during your trip. Countries may need to be unblocked to ensure successful purchases. In addition, here is a link to a Visa Global ATM locator:
