Local High Schools Enroll in UniBank's Financial Literacy Program

UniBank is proud to announce that the UniBank Financial Literacy program is being offered at four Blackstone Valley schools for the 2007/ 2008 school year. The program is offered in collaboration with the local high schools and targeted towards students in grades 11 and 12 from Northbridge High School, Douglas High School, Uxbridge High School and Sutton High School. Approximately 600 students are participating. School administrators determine whether the program is mandatory or if it is an elective for students.

Developed in 2006 by UniBank’s Christopher D. Foley, vice president and branch administrator and Diane M. Thompson, training officer, the program gives high school students the tools they need to make sound decisions when faced with financial challenges. After a successful pilot program at Northbridge High School, UniBank offered it to all high schools throughout the towns where UniBank has branch offices.

Elizabeth Brown, lead counselor at Uxbridge High School commented, “We are proud to have partnered with UniBank to offer our students this program. The skills learned will give our students the ability to make educated financial decisions.”

Six interactive presentations will take place at each school. Topics include checking and savings accounts, loans, credit, identity theft, investments, and careers in banking. Each presentation is conducted by a UniBank representative who specializes in the topic being discussed.
